Our Fretwork Sets Us Apart
Fret Dress
A fret dress, also known as a fret level, will have your instrument playing better than the day you bought it. If you’re experiencing buzzing issues, it’s likely due to wear on the frets. Those grooves and divots will be resolved when you bring your guitar to us. We level, re-crown, and polish each fret, ensuring that every string makes consistent contact across the board. Our fret dress includes our signature setup, and Tom Evanchuck Guitar Repair is known for impeccable fretwork.
We do not use a Plek machine at Tom Evanchuck Guitar Repair. We have corrected numerous guitars that have undergone Plek jobs elsewhere. Ultimately, a Plek job is only as good as the technician performing the work, and the final setup is always done by a skilled person, not a machine.
Refret
If your guitar frets are worn down and can no longer be dressed or leveled, it’s time for a refret. Our refrets include a hand-carved bone nut, a light dressing, and our signature setup. After a refret from us, your guitar will be ready for another 10,000 miles! A properly done refret will not diminish the value of your guitar. After all, a guitar isn’t worth much if you can’t play it. With thousands of refrets under our belt, you can trust that your guitar will be better than it was the day you bought it. We guarantee all of our work!
