Bone Nuts and Saddle Work in Northeast Ohio

Hand-Carved Bone Nuts and Saddles

Our bone work is immaculate! Whether it’s a hand-carved bone nut, saddle, or a full bone setup, this upgrade can make a world of difference for your guitar. Luthier schools have even attempted to recruit my teacher, Master Luthier Barrett Culpepper, to teach bone carving classes due to his exceptional skills. Fortunately, his craft and techniques have been passed down to me.

Most manufacturers use pre-slotted Corian (a type of countertop material) or plastic nuts, which are cheaper one-size-fits-all options. Upgrading to a high-quality bone nut can significantly enhance your guitar’s sound. We start with a blank of bleached cow bone, but you can also choose fancier materials like buffalo, mammoth, or horn. Horn is a great option if you’re looking for a unique black nut. Each nut is hand-carved specifically for your instrument.

Because working with bone can be hazardous, we have a special process in our shop for carving. Our workstation is equipped with a high-tech filtration system, and we wear respirator masks to ensure safety during the process. Mastering the craft of creating a perfectly crafted bone nut takes practice, and we take great pride in the bone work we produce for your guitar. Each piece is truly a handcrafted work of art.
